Dental Grinding

Don’t let teeth grinding damage your teeth or jaw. Our experienced dental team offers comprehensive care and personalised solutions to help you manage and treat bruxism effectively.

What Is Teeth Grinding?

Teeth grinding, or bruxism, is the unconscious clenching or grinding of teeth, commonly during sleep but sometimes while awake. It can involve grinding, clenching, or gnashing, and may occur occasionally or develop into a long-term habit.

Over time, this repeated pressure can lead to tooth wear, jaw pain, and other oral health issues.

Factors Leading to Teeth Grinding

Bruxism, or teeth grinding, is often linked to stress, anxiety, or sleep disturbances like sleep apnea. It can also stem from bite problems or misaligned teeth.

Lifestyle factors such as caffeine, alcohol, smoking, and certain medications may also increase the risk.

Understanding the root cause is essential for choosing the right treatment and protecting your teeth and jaw.

Personalised Treatment for Teeth Grinding

Our experienced team at Pelago Dental carefully assesses each case of bruxism to identify its cause and create a personalised treatment plan. We offer custom-fitted night guards and dental splints designed to cushion your teeth during sleep and reduce the harmful effects of grinding.

We Are Preferred Providers For:

When to Seek Professional Help

While occasional teeth grinding may not require immediate attention, it’s important to seek professional help if the habit becomes frequent or starts causing discomfort. You should see a dentist if you experience symptoms such as jaw pain, headachess, facial soreness, worn-down or chipped teeth, or if your partner notices grinding noises during sleep. Left untreated, teeth grinding can lead to more serious issues.

A dental professional can assess the severity of the condition, identify any underlying causes, and recommend appropriate treatment. Early intervention can help protect your teeth and improve your overall oral health.

Dental Treatments for Bruxism

At Pelago Dental, we understand how bruxism can affect your oral health. That’s why we offer a wide range of tailored treatment options to help manage the condition and protect your smile.

Custom Night Guards and Dental Splints

At Pelago Dental, we provide custom-made night guards designed to protect your teeth from nighttime grinding. These comfortable, specially fitted devices act as a barrier between your upper and lower teeth, helping to reduce pressure, prevent wear, and minimise further damage.

Dental Restorations

When teeth are badly worn from grinding, restorative treatments like crowns, veneers, or bonding can help. These options restore the shape and strength of damaged teeth while offering added protection against ongoing bruxism.

Occlusal Adjustments

In some cases, our dentists may recommend an occlusal adjustment, also known as a bite adjustment. This involves gently reshaping specific tooth surfaces to improve bite alignment. A balanced bite can help reduce pressure on the jaw and may decrease teeth grinding.

Caravanning from Perth to Darwin and experienced pain in my gums. Although very busy they managed to fit me in and Ingrid took care of my problem for me. What a lovely, professional place. Not only that but they followed up with a call two days later just to make sure I was ok. Full marks to Pelago Dental. Thank you. 🙏

The girls were absolutely amazing. They fit me in for and emergency extraction and I've always had an issue with getting enough anaesthetic but they were already prepared. Definately recommend over the other options in town.
